Important Regulations about Child Care, Time Off and Responsibilities

Au Pairs must:

  • Be paid the minimum stipend weekly
  • Receive the required education allowance
  • Work no more than 45 hours per week
  • Work no more than 30 hours per week if an EduCare Companion
  • Work no more than 10 hours in one day
  • Receive one and one half days off each week
  • Receive at least one full weekend off each month
  • Receive two weeks paid vacation over one year

Au Pair Responsibilities may include:

  • Waking the children and preparing breakfast
  • Dressing and bathing the children
  • Playing games and organizing children’s activities
  • Preparing meals and snacks for the children
  • Helping with homework, arts and crafts and other children’s projects
  • Making the children’s beds and straightening their rooms
  • Doing the children's laundry and putting it away
  • Cleaning up after the children eat
  • Straightening up the bedroom or playroom
  • Driving children to and from school, appointments or outings as requested

The au pair responsibilities do not include housework unrelated to the children such as cleaning the home or doing the parents laundry.
