I-94 Card Information
When you enter the United States and go through customs, the Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) official will place a stamp in your passport indicating your date of admission into the United States, your class of admission (J-1), and the date that you are admitted until (D/S). Your DS 2019 form will not be stamped at immigration. Only your passport will be stamped.
The I-94 Admission Record, which is issued by Customs and Border Patrol, will document your arrival and lawful entry into the United States. The I-94 Admission Record will be issued electronically. It should indicate your admission to the U.S. for the duration of status, abbreviated as ‘D/S’, which stands for the period that you will be participating on the au pair program. The I-94 Admission Record is required to request a social security number (SSN) or a state driver’s license.
You will receive an information sheet telling you how you can retrieve you I-94 card information online from the CBP website: (https://i94.cbp.dhs.gov/I94/request.html. I-94 card information will immediately be uploaded to the immigration database. Your electronic Admission Record will be available no more than 24 hours after your arrival in the U.S. You can go to CBP website (http://www.cbp.gov/I94) to print down a paper document of your I-94 card number which you will need to bring with you when you go to apply for a social security cards and driver’s license.
