A majority of Americans report that religion plays a very important role in their lives. The majority of Americans identify themselves as <a href=\"http:\/\/community.aupairinamerica.com\/wiki\/Christians\">Christians<\/a>, while close to a quarter claim <a href=\"http:\/\/community.aupairinamerica.com\/wiki\/Irreligion\">no religious affiliation<\/a>. \u00a0According to a 2014 study by the <a href=\"http:\/\/community.aupairinamerica.com\/wiki\/Pew_Research_Center\">Pew Research Center<\/a>, 70.6% of the American population identified themselves as Christians, with 46.5% professing attendance at a variety of churches that could be considered <a href=\"http:\/\/community.aupairinamerica.com\/wiki\/Protestant\">Protestant<\/a>, and 20.8% professing <a href=\"http:\/\/community.aupairinamerica.com\/wiki\/Roman_Catholic\">Roman Catholic<\/a> beliefs. The same study says that other religions (including <a href=\"http:\/\/community.aupairinamerica.com\/wiki\/Judaism\">Judaism<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/community.aupairinamerica.com\/wiki\/Buddhism\">Buddhism<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/community.aupairinamerica.com\/wiki\/Islam\">Islam<\/a>, and <a href=\"http:\/\/community.aupairinamerica.com\/wiki\/Hinduism\">Hinduism<\/a>) collectively make up about 6% of the population. According to a 2012 survey by the Pew forum, 36 percent of Americans state that they attend services nearly every week or more.
